The Integrated Substance Use Disorder in Primary Care Fellowship is a year-long, full-time, salaried fellowship (beginning September 15th, 2023) at the University of Illinois-Chicago that will provide the needed training to develop Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) &/or Advanced Practice Nurses (APNs) into: Autonomous clinician educators who possess in-depth therapeutic knowledge in caring for people with substance use disorders; Independent practitioners and scholars that can have high impact endeavors in a variety of primary care and teaching environments; Superior candidates for their desired career goals, especially in primary/care substance use disorder care.

PROGRAM BACKGROUND:
This grant is supported by the Health Resources and Services Administration and is designed to provide broad exposure to variety of primary care situations with a focus on people who also have a substance use disorder. Assessment will be continual, multidisciplinary, and refined to keep pace with the fellows’ individual needs, growth, and career goals.
This program is also an opportunity to gain experience in a major U.S. city known for its cultural institutions, architecture, vibrant and diverse neighborhoods, and people and organizations that care deeply and work tirelessly to make Chicago the most welcoming and inviting city in the world.
APPLICANT ELIGIBILITY:
- Applicant must hold a Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree
- Be eligible for APRN licensure in Illinois (or hold active APRN licensure in Illinois)
- Be board-eligible (or currently board-certified) as a Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) or Adult-Gerontology Nurse Practitioner (AGNP) in the State of Illinois
- Meet all requirements for employment by the University of Illinois at Chicago, which includes a background check
